Rene Robinson Napangardio

Rene Robinson Napangardi is a contemporary Aboriginal artist of the Warlpiri people from Central Australia, originally from Yuendumu in the Northern Territory. Born in the early 1960s, she became one of the artists instrumental in establishing the Jukurrpa Artists’ cooperative in Alice Springs and was part of the early growth of the Warlukurlangu painting movement. Her work reflects important Warlpiri Dreaming stories, including Bush Banana, Honey Ant, Bush Mango, Water Snake, and Ngalyipi (Climbing Vine) Dreamings.

Known for her bold compositions and expressive use of color and pattern, Robinson’s paintings celebrate the spiritual and cultural connection between people, land, and ancestral stories. She has exhibited in both public and private collections throughout Australia and was included in important exhibitions during the late 1980s that helped bring contemporary Aboriginal art to wider national attention. Robinson’s work continues the rich storytelling traditions of the Warlpiri people while contributing to the evolution of contemporary Indigenous Australian art.
