Jean Frederic Bazille was a French painter and one of the founding figures of Impressionism. Born into a wealthy family in Montpellier, he moved to Paris to study art and became close friends with fellow artists Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Alfred Sisley. Bazille is celebrated for his luminous landscapes, figure paintings, and scenes of modern life, distinguished by their bright palette and natural light. Despite his promising career, his life was cut tragically short when he was killed in the Franco-Prussian War at just twenty-eight years old. His innovative works helped lay the foundations for the Impressionist movement.
