Brandon McKenzie is a Dallas based artist whose minimal abstract landscape paintings have been exploring the human relationship to the Earth through his landscape paintings since the beginning of his painting career. Born in Kansas and raised in Texas, his early work focused on capturing the landscapes of the near American West. He started the LS Series in 2020 to look at landscapes in a more minimal and abstract way while exploring added elements of surrealism in the compositions. His LS Series uses a minimal grey-scale color palette that focuses on a rhythm of compositional studies. These studies are built on the idea of palimpsest and go through a heavily layered process where each layer works to influence the composition of the painting’s final iteration.
